  • 2026/05/13 – swift on the windowsill under the swift nestboxes; at least 2 swift nestboxes inhabited; one of the swifts has problems getting out of the nestbox through a narrow hole (20:08-20:25), he succeeds the first time, but the second time he is caught by Mr. Kestrel (20:31)
  • 2026/05/14 – swift from the same nestbox caught by a jackdaw (6:49)

 

Of Mice and Kestrels

Kestrels (common or european kestrels) stay with us in our flat in a housing estate in the suburb of Brno for a long time. Initially they used our balcony only as a shelter and dormitory, but since the fire in 2006, the situation changed. Starting with the 2007 season kestrels are nesting here.
